Jonah 3- Conclusion
|Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.|
Perish- vb- to become destroyed or ruined; die
Repent- vb- to turn from sin and dedicate oneself to the amendment of one’s life; to change one’s mind; (vt)- to cause to feel regret or contrition
I am not going to place a focus on whether or not the mind of God changes because of the verse stating that “God repented”. However I did want to wrestle with the Holy Spirit about that because it is in the bible more than once. When the Sprit says “no, don’t go that route and lose focus on rending your heart”, what do you do? You listen to Him. I didn’t take that chance and I chose to focus on what I do and don’t do that pleases God. You see, darlings, it’s not about God repenting. It’s about God’s repentance of the evil that lies within the hearts of men. It is a repentance of man’s heart that makes the change.-Forward March!
Lesson- During this study, it has become so evident to me that we only have two choices in this life per any given situation/event that determines an outcome. We are quick to look past the obvious. When your wickedness goes up before God as the Ninevites wickedness did (“…for their wickedness is come up before me”- Jonah 1:2) will you choose To Perish or To Repent? I chose repentance. It has been shown from the beginning (Genesis) and will be until the ending (Revelation) of this life we now live.
Think about this…when you decide not to make a choice, whether you realize it or not, others will make choices for you which leaves you to chance based upon someone else’s decision. Would you choose to let someone else decide what is best for your life and you not rely on God? Many of us do, even those who are in our right mind. Jonah had the right mind, but the heart let him flee. Yes, I did go there. I Love You. Do you not have your own mind? Yes God sends messengers, but you are the ONE responsible for hearing the message with your heart…it’s your heart that is examined by God.( 1 Samuel 16:7) Each of those in Jonah 3:7-8, from the animals to humans had to account for their own heart issues, even though Jonah relayed the message. You may not agree, however that is your choice. Allow me to share with you scriptures received that are evidence of my lesson learned about making choices and leaving chance to God. The Bang!!!… The God of “And” repents of the evil that we do. We always remember “but God”, and barely remember “and God”. This is in sync with my two choices message I received. Isn’t the Holy Spirit a great communicator? Yes or No? Choose one. I used to love those multiple choice tests, because the right answer was there, you just had to choose it. I find it aching that Adam and Eve took the first multiple choice test knowing the answer and still chose the wrong answer by listening to someone else. We do that too, however, “And God” when He sees an improvement in our works and our hearts, He forgives and He has mercy according to the rending of our heart and cares over to Him.
Jonah 3:9-10– …“And God saw their works…. AND God repented of the evil, that He said He would do unto them; And (God) He did it not.” It is your choice To Perish or To Repent? As the King of the Ninevites asked …. “Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?” God chose you. Why not repent? Why not rend your heart to God? I’ll tell you why you should per John 15:16- Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
“Every choice moves us closer to or farther away from something. Where are your choices taking your life? What do your behaviors demonstrate that you are saying yes or no to in life?”
“Yes, there are two paths you can go by. But in the long run there’s still time to change the road you’re on.”
“Then as it was, then again it will be, and though the course will change sometimes, rivers always reach the sea.”
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.
