Deuteronomy 32:1-3 – Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
Last night, there were heavy rain and thunderstorms with high winds in my area. I am a thunderstorm lover, rain, wind, tornadoes, hurricanes, you name it, I love it because it reminds me of how powerful God is. Although storms can be damaging, they are so beautiful. Did you know that storms produce both faith and fear within us? As for me, storms give me more faith to move forward, without looking back. They said even the wind and the sea (water) obey Him…Huh? Matthew 8:23-27-And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
I often associate certain rains with a joyful cleansing from heaven for a beloved saint or child of God’s who was just buried. The thought of a friend’s mother, came to mind when I heard a loud thunder. Ring! Ring! It’s 9:45 p.m. My grandson Elijah called, and said “Grandma, our lights went out, are yours out?” I told him “no, get your flashlights I gave you and pray.” He said, “Ok, but I called you first and I wanted to tell you we love you.” Emanuel was in the background saying “ask her to come over here”, while their mom was yelling in the background “get off the phone, go to bed, it is lightning.” I told them to get to sleep because the Lord wants them to rest so that they could go to school tomorrow. We both said “I love you” before hanging up. I am glad the Lord has instilled in them through my actions, that they can rely on their grandmother for protection and comfort, if from no one else on earth. TYHS! 🙂
2/21/14- It is Friday morning, I woke up (PTL) and the sun was shining brightly and the weather was nice after such a horrific storm all night til the wee morning hours. I began to sing…There’s got to be rain in your life by Dorothy Norwood. Thank you Holy Spirit for ministering to me via that song! I’ve got to learn how to play that song on guitar. Help!

My heart was thinking about rain and I was led to write a post about this majestic element of God. I could be wrong too, but rain is spoken about more in the OT than the NT, but that’s because I live and breathe the OT and I love Jesus. This verse came to mind Matthew 5: 45-That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Most of us look at rain as an inconvenience. Rain can cause a change in plans and attitudes. It can cause fear and joy. It is necessary for things to grow. It is the number one chemistry element H20 used to put out fires and is used for the building up of many structures. Rain can replenish oceans, ponds, and seas. Rain can cause destruction by rising into a heavy flood washing away graves, homes, trees, buildings, remove paved roads, and can cause death. I look at RAIN as a way for us to reevaluate things in our lives. Read Genesis 6-9. I think of this as being one of the most important events in the bible that make us aware of how powerful God really is. He said I AM, Amen.
Matthew 7:25-27- And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it
Oh yeah! Rain saves lives too. Look here… Isaiah 55:10 – For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
Rain opens the eyes and hearts of many and can cause one to respect the Lord and His will. See here… Samuel 12:17-18- Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king. So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
Now let’s take a look at a few more bible verses about rain, apply them to your life, and let the verses minister to you:
Genesis 7:4 – For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
Isaiah 45:8 -Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.
Jeremiah 5:24 – Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
Amos 4:7 – And also I have withholden the rain from you, when [there were] yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.
Hebrews 6:4-8 -For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: but that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. (Rain as Renewal)
Psalm 68:8-9 -the earth shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God: even Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel. Thou, O God, didst send a plentiful rain, whereby thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary.
Jeremiah 10:13– When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.
Deuteronomy 28:12 -The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
Acts 14:17-Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.
1 Kings 8:35-36-When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them: Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.
Genesis 9:14-16 – And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. (Rain is even part of His promise. RAINBOW…get it?)
It’s just water, you say. Think again. As we go about in our busy day-to-day lives, do we ever stop to think about how powerful and essential RAIN is? It is the first element used by God to make man take notice of His power. Correct me if I am wrong in that thought. Rain comes and goes according to the Word of God. Scripture tells us that RAIN is one of the Lord’s many treasures. It is a gift from God. To end this, I ask that each and every one of us deeply think about the significance RAIN (i.e. tears, water, snow, floods, storms, death, joy, feeling lost, etc.) plays in our lives, whether it is the lack of or an abundance of it in our daily lives. What does your Doppler Storm Radar look like? Look nigh to Him who controls ALL Rain.
For it is so in the bible that even Jesus Wept!
